GTA 6 Cover Art: What Rockstar Actually Revealed
Rockstar revealed the official Grand Theft Auto VI cover art in June 2026 and set the pre-order date. Here's what's in it and where to download it.
Rockstar revealed the official Grand Theft Auto VI cover art on June 18, 2026 — and used the same announcement to set the date pre-orders would open. It’s a smaller beat than a trailer, but Rockstar cover art has historically carried more information than people expect.
What the announcement confirmed
Two concrete things, both straight from Rockstar:
- The official cover art, published to its YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website
- Pre-orders opening June 25, 2026, on digital storefronts and at select retailers
Rockstar also made the artwork available as a downloadable asset at rockstargames.com/VI, which is worth knowing if you want it as a wallpaper — the official file is far cleaner than the upscaled reposts circulating on social media.
Why cover art matters more for Rockstar than most publishers
Most modern box art is a character render on a gradient. Rockstar has stuck with its illustrated style since the GTA III era — a hand-drawn look, often built from panels, that doubles as a statement about the game’s tone.
That style is why fans dissect it. GTA V’s cover established its trio and its sun-bleached Los Santos palette before anyone had played it. For GTA VI, the artwork centres Lucia and Jason — reinforcing what both trailers established, that this is a dual-protagonist game built around a pair rather than an ensemble or a lone lead.
The palette does similar work. The Vice City revival lives on neon, humidity and Florida heat, and the cover commits to that visual identity rather than hedging toward the muted tones a lot of modern crime games default to.
What it does not tell you
This is where most cover-art coverage overreaches, so to be clear:
- It is not a map. Cover art has never encoded geography, and reading landmarks into it as evidence of locations is guesswork.
- It is not a story hint. Composition is a marketing decision, not a plot summary. Who stands where does not indicate who the “main” character is.
- It does not confirm mechanics. Nothing about vehicles, weapons or gameplay systems is established by an illustration.
Rockstar has confirmed the setting, the protagonists and the date directly. Everything beyond that in the artwork is interpretation, and worth treating as such.
Where this sat in the launch run-up
The cover reveal was a deliberate setup for the commercial phase. Cover art on June 18, pre-orders live June 25 — a week apart, giving the artwork time to circulate before the storefronts opened. That’s a standard, well-executed marketing sequence rather than anything unusual.
For where things stand now: pre-orders have been live since June, the Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99, and everyone buying before November 20, 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack. The next dated beat is the Extended Look on August 27, then preload on November 12 and launch on November 19, 2026.
Getting the artwork
Use Rockstar’s own download at rockstargames.com/VI. Avoid sites offering “4K GTA 6 cover art” packs — they’re upscales of the official file, frequently watermarked, and a common wrapper for ad traps.
