GTA 6 Weapons & Combat: What the Trailers Have Shown So Far

A grounded look at GTA 6's combat and weapons — what's visible in the two official trailers versus what's still pure speculation about gunplay and cover systems.

Combat has evolved every generation of GTA, and Rockstar’s two trailers have shown fragments of it without ever framing a full firefight. Here’s what’s actually on screen versus what fans are inferring.

What the trailers actually show

Both trailers lean cinematic over gameplay, but a few details are visible on close inspection:

  • Modern firearm silhouettes in a handful of shots — nothing showing a HUD, ammo counter, or aiming reticle.
  • Police response — flashing lights and pursuit implied in background action, consistent with an escalating “wanted level”-style system continuing in some form.
  • Physical, close-quarters altercations alongside gunplay, suggesting melee remains part of the combat mix as in GTA 5.

What’s confirmed versus assumed

Nothing about GTA 6’s actual combat systems — cover mechanics, weapon wheel, damage model — has been shown in a gameplay context. Everything beyond “guns and fights exist” is inference from cinematic frames.

Rockstar has not published a weapons list, a combat trailer, or gameplay footage of any kind as of this writing. That’s normal for this stage of marketing — GTA 5’s combat systems weren’t detailed publicly until much closer to launch.

What’s reasonable to expect

Based on Rockstar’s trajectory across GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2:

  1. A refined cover system — RDR2’s dead-eye and cover mechanics were a clear step up from GTA 5’s; GTA 6 likely inherits that maturity.
  2. Weapon customization — GTA 5’s gunsmith-style attachments are a low-risk feature to expect back.
  3. More reactive NPCs and police AI, matching the crowd-density improvements already visible in both trailers.

The honest summary

Confirmed: guns and physical combat exist in GTA 6, shown briefly and cinematically. Not confirmed: any specific system, weapon, or mechanic. Anyone describing a “leaked weapon wheel” or specific gun list right now is describing a rumor. We’ll cover the real systems the moment Rockstar shows actual gameplay — and flag clearly when that happens.
