GTA 6 Map Size: How Big Is Leonida Really?

How big is the GTA 6 map? A grounded look at the size of Leonida versus past GTA and Red Dead maps — what the trailers imply, and why no official number exists yet.

“How big is the GTA 6 map?” is one of the most-asked questions about the game — and the honest answer is that Rockstar hasn’t given a number. But the trailers, the setting, and Rockstar’s history let us reason toward a realistic picture. Here’s what’s grounded and what’s guesswork.

What’s actually confirmed

GTA 6 is set in the state of Leonida — a fictional take on Florida — centered on a modern Vice City, with surrounding wetlands, beaches and rural areas. That’s confirmed from the trailers. What is not confirmed:

  • No official square-mileage or map dimensions.
  • No confirmed number of towns, cities or counties — datamined region names are from old builds and may be placeholders. (More on that in our map & Leonida breakdown.)

The comparison everyone wants

For context, the commonly cited (unofficial) sizes of past maps:

  • GTA 5 (Los Santos & Blaine County): roughly 49 sq miles by community estimates.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: larger still, with dense, hand-crafted detail.

Expectations are that GTA 6’s Leonida is Rockstar’s largest and most detailed world yet — but “expected” is not “confirmed.” Treat any specific GTA 6 size figure as an estimate until Rockstar publishes one.

Why size isn’t the whole story

Raw square mileage is a weak measure of a Rockstar map. What actually matters:

  1. Density — both trailers show crowd and traffic detail far beyond GTA 5. A denser small map beats a sparse large one.
  2. Water and traversal — Leonida’s wetlands and coast make boats and aircraft central, effectively expanding the usable world beyond its land area.
  3. Interiors — more enterable buildings makes a map feel bigger than its footprint.

The honest summary

Confirmed: GTA 6 is set in Leonida with a modern Vice City core and surrounding wetlands. Not confirmed: any official map size, and the exact number of regions. When Rockstar reveals real map details, we’ll line them up against past games and label every figure — no made-up square miles dressed as fact.
